Economic Bungee Jumping.

Economic Bungee Jumping.  I questioned what this really meant, and then I read "Catching the bottom of the cycle can turbocharge your portfolio or business plan, while missing the peak can lay waste to both." and then it hit me, stocks.  Business cycles are hard to predict.  Population and productivity have a huge part in making the economy rise and/or fall.  "  Business cycles are an unavoidable and largely unpredictable feature of market economies."  (p.2)  Predictions of the cycle are mainly made on gut feeling, not very statistical at all.  (quite the opposite of what I thought)

There are also imbalances in the economy.  Such as Bear and Bull markets.  A bull market is when prices in a certain area are rising, while bear markets are more violent than a bull market.  Bull expectations are expectations to boost investment and stock prices.

The definition of a recession is "two or more consecutive quarters of declining GDP"  A press release is required for a recession to begin.  " They declare a recession when they conclude there  has been a significent decline in economic activity across the economy, lasting more than a few months"  The word we use "recession" is a just a term that replaced the word "depression" in the business world.

When the economy attempts to recuperate and fails to come out of a recession, it becomes a depression.  Banks become cripple because of their dependency on the loans go bad because of companies investment booms fail.  On top of that, other countries economies can affect us if they are to crash. In the late 1980's and early 1990's Finland's GDP dropped 10% because of the Soviet Union collapsing.  (most of their money comes from vodka anyways)

In conclusion to my blog, there is no producer with out the consumer(s). They both keep the cycle of the economy going.  Once there is an imbalance, recession will be called.  The failure of the natural recuperative process comes from a broken financial system blocks the flow of credit.

Hidden Economy

The hidden economy is a group of workers who can not find a full-time employment job.  The people in the hidden economy are paid cash for doing certain tasks without the knowledge of the government.  Such jobs that fall under this category one day construction workers, hiring illegal immigrants, and housekeepers. Aside from the government not getting taxes from these workers, they do provide a good position in the economy.  These workers don't get many hours, but they take as many as they can because most have families that they need to provide for.  All workers in the hidden economy do not pay taxes for their jobs because it is done under the tables, which is very convenient for these people seeing as they don't make enough money with their hours anyways.
Some may say (and by that, I mean other people's blogs) that the government raises taxes for workers  in the actual economy because of the money that the gov. loses from the hidden economy not having to play taxes.  Hidden economy workers also do not receive social security or health benefits for their jobs, also denting the economy.  The hidden economy is said to also lead to drug use, but to each their own. The FCC won't let me be, or let me be me, so let me see, they try to shut me down on MTV, but it feels so empty without me.

Net Neutrality is the Internet's guiding principle.  This preserves our protected rights to legally communicate online freely.  With Net Neutrality, free speech enabled and protected.  With out NN, ISP could slow down their competitor's content or block political opinions (violation against freedom of speech.)  ISP's can also charge extra fees to extra fees to the few companies who can afford the extra fee for preferential treatment, which would lead to slower service for any small companies.  In other words leading to an empire, and yet another "top 1%" of a group. (ex. food companies).  It is important to the corporations because like real life, we can't just have one big Walmart, we need separate independent stores for more jobs  for the community.  It is also important for the consumers because we are all users of the internet, that would be abusing and taking away the rights of millions of internet users.

Spoils and Merit system

The spoils system was a system in which supporters would get government positions for their support of the party. The whole meaning of this was to insure that government members were from the same party as the president.  Many presidents are notorious for doing this method.  Andrew Jackson, for instance, substituted everyone in the gov. for his supporters.  Jackson said he believed it was good to clear out the government office members to keep the government from becoming corrupt. (Fighting corrupt with corrupt, classic government.)
The Pendleton Act was put in place in 1881 to stop The Spoil System.  The reason why they made this was because of Charles Guiteau assassinating James A. Garfield because he did not give him a government job.  This act created the merit system.  It created exams for federal government.  It also created a three-member Civil Service Commission administration.  This stopped jobs being given out because of a favored party and made a system based off of skills and ability to do jobs.  I believe that regardless of the merit system still being in tact today, the spoils system still exists behind closed doors.  To quote David Quaglia (shout out to David, you the man.) He said there is about 3% of government jobs are determined by the President outside of the merit system itself.

Delete your text messages.

Do i think cops should be able to search my phone without a warrant? Absolutely not.  My phone is my personal privacy and my 4th amendment right to decline a search without a warrant. When the police as you if they can search something- whether it's your house, your car, or your phone- you always have the right to say no.) (Patricia, 15)  Of course the counter argument could be "but then you can delete anything incriminating between the cops leaving to obtain a warrant and come back!" And to that I have no argument.

I believe that the phone of a witness or criminal of a crime cannot be searched without a warrant or permission.  If the person so happens to allow the police to gain access to the cellphone then it is their decision.  If no warrant is valid at the time of a requested search then no search should be permitted. "The court understands that digital information  is different than papers and cabinets and lockboxes. (Patricia, 17.) "Courts will not be more likely to rule in favor of greater privacy for digital records.") (Patricia, 17.)  These are quotes that state that courts are in favor of privacy of cellphones. Boom.

American Gov.T problems - Raising Pell Grant - Obaaaama

Obama raised the maximum Pell Grant to $5,500 since 2008.

What Obama is doing with this is increasing our education as Americans.  Which.. we need.  Not everybody, but you know somebody who needs to be a little more educated.  With this, college is becoming slowly more affordable for students.  It encourages students at a young age to do well in high school so you can get into a good college to get a better career.  Now having a second-post degree is a prerequisite for this generation's jobs.  All at a price to afford.  More teachers are being hired to teach more areas of learning to educate a higher percentage of our youth.  Great to help Obama's unemployment rate drop, but not necessarily the best for the youth.  As a student of this generation's youth, I can safely say I've seen some teachers with no ambition to do their job as a teacher and this severely affects how we as a generation are being taught.  Instead of increase the number of teachers, why don't we up the requirements to be a teacher? Then, I think a significant increase of intelligence will be reflected from the youth.

"22 million K-12 students are benefiting from President Obama's historic form."
I wouldn't call it "benefiting".  I'd more or less call it "growing up in". Obama is encouraging online learning with technology.  Past generation complains that we are glued to our phone, and we don't know how to do anything without the internet or the "old fashion" style.  But can you blame us?  Look at what we are growing up with, technology is there to do it for us.  I'm not siding with any one here but it's hard make sense out of complaining that technology is ruining the way we as a country function when all we do is enforce it.  We're basically adapting to it and it won't be long till the entire world (disregarding 3rd world countries, you do you) cannot function without technology.

Electoral college

In order to keep the rich from the poor due to the unbalanced population gap between this 2, the electoral college was created.  Is it fair? No. Does your opinion matter? Of course not! Your voice won't change what the government thinks. Nobody here (maybe Jason Ramos being an exception) are among the extraordinary wealthy or in the government.  But that doesn't stop the electoral college from working time after time.  What this does do, however, is allow small states to get more votes regardless of their lack of population compared to bigger states.

Without the Electoral college, there would be some problems.  With out it, there would not be an immediate out come with the votes.  If popular vote were to be the process of which we decided presidency, our candidates would request for recounts, making the process take much longer than necessary.  One example of where it succeeded was during Bush and Clinton in 1992 not allowing any run offs from potentially happening.
